Dorkploame Water, Health And Sanitation Project
Dorkploame Electoral Area is one of the forty (40) electoral areas in South Tongu District of Volta Region of Republic of Ghana. The community is one of the deprived communities in South Tongu District. According to the 2010 population census, the population of this community is four thousand, nine hundred and eighty five (4,985). Dorkploame electoral area is made up of thirty (30) villages. The community is blessed with vast fertile land hence the main sole occupation is farming. The farmers in this community cultivate crops like maize, cassava, pepper, groundnuts, garden eggs, tomatoes and others. However, the inhabitants of this community hardly make ends meet because they are peasant farmers. Dorkploame Electoral Area has one public basic school and one CHPS Compound to ensure access to education and health care respectively. A number of villages in the community had benefited from the Community Electrification Project and were added to the national grid. However, there are numerous nerve-racking and tormenting challenges that need urgent interventions from both private and governmental organizations come in and support. One of the extremely distressing challenges that the community is confronted is lack of good drinking water. The absence of good drinking water is a setback for effective health delivery in the community.
There is a saying that water is life but I will like to put it this way – ‘good drinking water is life’. Some waters are diseases and death. One can find one of these wasters Dokpoame community. The only source of water for the entire community is the small dam which is shared with animals on several occasions. The problem becomes worst in dry season where the dam dries up and children, mothers and elderly have to travel eight kilometers in search of water. The lack of good drinking water in the community poses a danger to the lives of people in the community. The People of Dorkloame are exposed to diseases and hardship as a result of inaccessibility to good drinking water. The community have been battling with this problem for long and this has affected their health and economic activities. Since good drinking water is life, it is our hope as an organization and as a matter of urgency collaborates with the governmental and non-governmental organizations to extend portable drinking water to Dorkploame Electoral Area. This will ease the water problem in the community.
There is a saying – ‘a healthy mind lives in a healthy body’. The only health facility in the community faces lots of problems. Some of these problems are lack of water, lack of residence for the health staffs and other basic needs for easy health delivery. Since water is essential in health delivery, we pray that other Philanthropists will come on board to make this a reality
It is said that cleanliness is next to Godliness. Sanitation is crucial by crook or by hook. The community is made up of a number of villages with its central be Dorkploame where the basic school and the market are located. Apart from the market and the school, this is where the entire community and other sub communities converge for programs and also receive government officials and other important personalities that visit the community. It is important that the community has places of convenience across the community which will serve the inhabitants and visitors.
Solidage Africa Foundation (SAF) is trying hard as matter of urgency to support this water, health sanitation project in Dorkloame and we therefore appeal to all local and international organizations, government and non-governmental to support us to execute this project successfully to make this problem a story of the past in Dorkloame and its surrounding communities.
This project is expected to commence in September, 2017 and expected to end in March,2018.
